Student Medical Journal

About us

The Student Medical Journal (SMJ) is an international open-access platform for students to share their original, high-quality research contributions in all disciplines of biomedical sciences.  Intending to foster scientific excellence and validity of student research, SMJ leverages a peer-reviewing process and strives to break the misconception that student research is of lesser quality.

The SMJ is a student-run journal supported and advised by the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich (LMU). The journal publishes peer-reviewed laboratory and clinical research in various formats, including, but not limited to, Original Research Articles, Letters, Review Articles, Clinical Case Studies, and Thesis Abstracts. Our peer-reviewers consist of selected principal investigators at the medical faculty at LMU that have proven academic and scientific excellence in their fields. In addition to peer-reviewed content, SMJ provides a platform for exchanging non-peer-reviewed content between students, scientists, and physicians by advocating scientific discussion and education and nurturing good scientific practice as a core value.

The advisory board of the SMJ consists of members of the medical faculty of LMU. SMJ is hosted by the University Library LMU Munich and funded by the medical faculty of LMU.
